The shared vision of a sustainable future between the electricity trader Enefit and the local store chain top! has led to the opening of the first points of the electric vehicle public charging network near top! stores in Iecava, Dobele, Jelgava, and Tukums. Soon, Riga will also be joining this network. By the end of the year, 20 stores across Latvia are scheduled to be equipped with Enefit Volt chargers. The implementation of the project is a significant milestone towards a greener future for Latvia and improved convenience for customers and residents of nearby houses.
“We are truly pleased that in cooperation with Enefit we are opening new, modern electric vehicle charging stations next to top! stores in four cities in Latvia, with plans to expand to other Latvian cities in the near future. This cooperation confirms the commitment of the store chain top! to incorporating sustainability into our core business strategy, while also providing our customers and nearby residents with a convenient and environmentally friendly solution for charging electric vehicles. It is very important that electric vehicle owners do not have to worry about the possibility of charging their vehicles, therefore this cooperation is important for us in terms of developing the chain in Latvian cities,” comments Ilze Priedīte, Member of the Management Board and Marketing Director of the store chain top!.
The first four Enefit Volt charging points in Latvia have been opened near the stores at 2 Edvarta Virzas Street in Iecava, 3A Muldavas Street in Dobele, 90 Dobeles šoseja in Jelgava, and 6 Eksporta Street in Tukums, with the top! store at 46A Zalves Street in Riga soon to follow. Each location has charging equipment with a capacity of 22 and 47 kilowatts. By the end of the year, a total of 20 top! stores are planned to be equipped with Enefit Volt chargers, providing charging opportunities throughout Latvia. Outside of Riga, the placement of public charging points is planned to be concentrated in the direction of Daugavpils, Tukums, Bauska, and Limbaži. The charging stations will provide charging with environmentally friendly energy.
“The new charging points near top! stores have been strategically placed to cater to the needs of residents living in nearby apartment buildings. This initiative aims to provide support and encouragement to those individuals who have been eager to switch to electric cars but have been hindered by the absence of charging infrastructure. Furthermore, it is crucial for electric vehicle users to have the convenience of being able to charge their car while running other errands, such as shopping,” says Mārtiņš Vancāns.
This project is part of a larger sustainability strategy for the store chain top!, which includes the implementation of a number of environmentally friendly solutions, such as the installation of solar panels, textile containers, battery recycling bins, and reverse vending machines, among other initiatives that the company is currently working on.
