In line with the memorandum signed by the retail sector and the Ministry of Economics (MoE) on reducing food prices, and the mission of the top! store network to provide Latvian residents with quality products at affordable prices, top! introduced the Low-Price Basket in stores at the end of June. It is currently the most extensive among all retailers. The concept ensures that in each product category, specially selected items are offered at the lowest price compared to other products in the same category within the store.
Since June 26, the Low-Price Basket has been available in all top! and mini top! stores. It currently includes 27 products across 10 product categories, including bread, dairy products, cheese, flour, grains, pasta, eggs, oil, fresh and processed meat products, and dumplings—making it the most extensive low-price basket among all retailers. In addition, each store regularly supplements the selection with fresh fruits, vegetables, and other products based on the shopping habits and demand of local customers. More than half (63%) of these products come from Latvian producers, as supporting local manufacturers and offering customers popular, high-quality products is essential for top! as a local Latvian company.
The offering includes both branded products and the popular top! private label items. More and more customers trust the private label line, as these products serve as proof of quality and the retailer’s values—they come from reliable and verified manufacturers, made with high-quality raw materials, and have passed top!’s quality control. Importantly, with private label products, we as a retailer can manage costs and logistics much more effectively, allowing us to offer especially good prices without compromising on quality. top!’s experience shows that private label products have become the primary choice for those who want to save money while being confident in the origin and quality of the product.
Although the top! store network plays an important role in ensuring food availability in Latvia’s regions, we recognize that we are not the market leader and cannot always negotiate the best purchasing terms with suppliers and producers. Nevertheless, as a local retail chain, our top priority has always been to stay close to the people—to understand their needs and offer the best we can in terms of assortment, quality, and pricing. That’s why we carefully select our products, work with trusted producers and suppliers, and highly value long-term partnerships—especially with local producers, with whom we have grown together over the past 25 years.
The products in the Low-Price Basket will be updated every four weeks, taking into account the product groups specified in the memorandum, seasonality, customer activity, and interest. The July Low-Price Basket is currently available in stores, and this list will be reviewed in August.
We’ve made sure that customers can easily identify the Low-Price Basket products – in stores, in the promotional leaflet, and on our website, these items are marked with a special label indicating that the product is offered at the best possible price. You can view the July selection here.
"We recognize that in many places top! is the only store available to residents on a daily basis, which is why we feel a special responsibility to provide both a quality assortment and the most affordable prices possible. This year has started very actively with several price reduction initiatives to help customers save money — at the beginning of the year, we introduced a customer loyalty program; a couple of months later, we prepared a product basket with more than 400 items at reduced prices. We have also introduced special prices available for three days each week on three products — these products are in particularly high demand. We carry out these activities because we understand how important it is to support people during challenging economic times. About the top! store network
The top! store network is the largest grocery chain owned by Latvian entrepreneurs in Latvia. Currently, there are 214 food stores operating under the top! brand in Latvia, owned by 12 local companies. In total, the network provides over 4,000 jobs, supporting local producers and suppliers throughout Latvia.
