Celebrating Valentine's Day is recognised by 90% of participants of the survey conducted by the store chain top!, highlighting the importance of time spent together (47%), creating a romantic mood (16%) and strengthening the feeling of family (14%) as essential in the celebration of love. In the two years since the last survey conducted by the store chain top!, Valentine's Day has received even greater recognition in the hearts of the people of Latvia and has already become a real holiday tradition among 72% of the respondents of the holiday survey. “Perhaps the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have reminded people what happiness it is to be with your loved one every day. The majority, or 48%, of the survey participants consider the most important thing on Valentine's Day to be spending time together, they want to make this day different from others. In creating a festive table, the store chain top! will also come to your aid with its attractive prices,” the Member of the Board of the store chain top! Ilze Priedīte emphasises.
Although a material gift is certainly not the main value of Valentine's Day, this is a great way to please your soulmate, friend or family member for the holiday. Slightly more than half of the respondents (54%) indicated that they would buy a gift in a store or online store (15%), at least 17% of respondents would prepare a surprise without investing additional funds, 13% do not plan a material gift at all.
The budget for a holiday gift varies among the respondents. 14% of respondents plan to spend up to 10 EUR on a gift, and some (20%) are ready to part with more than 30 EUR. The majority, or 29% of respondents, plan to buy a gift within 10-20 EUR.
Most respondents (30%) noted that they would choose a gift that differs from the already traditional options. The fact that homemade food is consistently the favourite way to surprise your significant other during the holidays (28%) confirms the adage that love goes through the stomach. Despite the upcoming holidays, 22% of respondents still do not know what to give a loved one.
The opinion of respondents that a gift for Valentine's Day should be mostly sweet and romantic (49%), and that the best gift is spending time together (38%) remains the most common. The large part of respondents (47%) also admitted that they would most like to receive as a gift the time devoted to another person. For the people of Latvia, Valentine's Day is, first, a holiday spent together. A day when you can show your care, love and gratitude to another person.
