Puff pastry ham and cheese hearts

For the pastries

  • 1 roll ready-made yeast-free puff pastry (or 1 package of frozen puff pastry sheets)
  • 50 g tomato sauce
  • 100 g sliced ham
  • 100 g sliced cheese
  • 1 egg

For the sauce

  • 200 g sour cream
  • 1 handful of dill
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Defrost or let the pastry rest until it reaches room temperature. Roll out the puff pastry on the table. If using puff pastry sheets, place all sheets next to each other and press all edges together with a fork, forming one large sheet of pastry.

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pastry and arrange the ham and cheese slices on top. Starting from one of the short sides, roll the pastry towards the center. Repeat the same from the opposite short side until both sides meet in the middle.

Cut the pastry into slices approximately 1 cm thick and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Gently adjust the heart shapes with your hands, if necessary. Beat the egg and brush each pastry with it. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serve with dill and sour cream sauce.
